In Maple class, we have settled into our new classroom and we are enjoying being based in the Spinney building. This half term we have been looking at our focus book ‘Wild’, which is about a child who is raised by forest animals. We have been writing sentences using nouns, verbs and adjectives in our English lessons. Science lessons have also been linked to the book with our work on Living Things and their Habitats – we have been looking for minibeasts in our woodland habitat in the school grounds!
A big focus over the last few weeks has been improving our social skills. We have been practising speaking politely to each other and playing turn-taking games, such as Top Trumps and Snakes and Ladders. Our favourite group game is What’s the Time Mr Wolf?
In Maths lessons, we have learned about counting, place value, addition and subtraction. Some of us have been using objects to help us count and add, others have been working hard to learn how to use column addition and subtraction.
We recently visited Canley Fire Station for our first class trip. Green Watch very kindly taught us all about the Great Fire of London and then we got to go on a fire engine and tried on some of the uniform and protective clothing!
